Alex came to me because he wanted his first set of headshots. He had left the Merchant Navy and picked up some acting work that had led him to me.

The aim of the shoot was to give him some strong, contemporary headshots but I wanted to highlight some different aspects to his personality. So, we talked and I caught him in the interim. Often with headshots, it seems that clients are so busy focusing on the camera lens that they almost forget to be themselves. By their nature, headshots  can be directorial and that is good to a point. Catching someone off guard, however,  can often really reap rewards. When the client is not focussed on the camera or are thinking about something else, their unguarded self comes through.

Among Alex’s choices was the image top far right; a more editorial style portrait. First left is his main headshot selection and him in a lighter moment.
